Ghanaian female rapper, Eno Barony, has recently paid tribute to veteran Ghanaian musician Mzbel in a BBC documentary, stating that if she is the mother of rap, then Mzbel is like the grandmother. This statement has brought to light the importance of recognizing and appreciating the contributions of those who have paved the way for the current generation of artists.

Mzbel, born Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, rose to fame in the early 2000s with her hit single “16 Years,” She was known for her bold and unapologetic approach to music, addressing controversial topics and pushing societal boundaries. Her impact on the Ghanaian music industry cannot be overstated, and she paved the way for a new generation of female artists.

Ruth Eno Adjoa Amankwah Nyame Adom well known Eno Barony,reveals that she had experienced fat-shaming in the industry and developed insecurities.

I accepted myself for who I am, that’s why i did a  song called ‘Heavy Load’,” Eno Barony said. She noted the track opened her eyes to fans of hers who looked up to her and appreciated her,” she said.

Eno Barony is the first female winner of the Rapper of the Year both at the VGMA and 3 Music awards beating heavyweights including Sarkodie, Joey B, Amerado and Medikal.
