Tucked away in the Western Region of Ghana lies one of the country’s most fascinating cultural treasures — the breathtaking Nzulezu Stilt Village. Built entirely on stilts above water, this historic village offers visitors a rare glimpse into a unique way of life that has existed for centuries.
Our journey began with a canoe ride across the calm waters and through thick wetlands.
The peaceful atmosphere, the sound of paddles touching the water, and the surrounding greenery made the experience both exciting and slightly nerve-racking—especially for a first-time boat rider. At some moments, it even felt like the boat might tip over, but the beauty of the journey quickly replaced any fear with pure adventure.
After about 20 minutes on the water, the village slowly came into view. Wooden walkways connected homes, classrooms, and gathering spaces, all carefully built above the lake.
Life in Nzulezu moves at a calm pace, and the community continues to preserve traditions that have been passed down through generations.
Walking through the village felt like stepping into a living piece of history.
From the warm smiles of the residents to the fascinating stories shared by local guides, every moment revealed how culture and nature beautifully coexist in this extraordinary place.
